EU Circular Economy Action Plan

The Circular Economy Action Plan presents new initiatives that address the entire life cycle of products and aim to modernise and transform our economy while protecting the environment. The action plan includes over 30 action points on ensuring the development of sustainable products and circularity in production processes, strengthening the consumer position, targeting key sectors and reducing waste.

Overview of the measures:
Ecodesign
The new ecodesign requirements adopted in May 2024 have the following objectives: - Set sustainability requirements for almost all types of goods on the EU market - introducing the Digital Product Passport - banning the destruction of certain consumer goods (textiles and shoes)
Directive on the Right to Repair
Consumers should have the opportunity to have damaged or faulty goods repaired instead of being replaced.
Empowering Consumers for the Green Transition
Consumers in the EU will have access to reliable information to make green choices, be better protected against unfair environmental claims and be better informed about the reparability of products before they buy.
Directive on Environmental Claims
The regulations help consumers to actually make more environmentally friendly decisions when buying a product or using a service.
The Circular Economy Action Plan focuses on those sectors that utilise the most resources and have a high circular economy potential.
